A Perfect Way to Capture your Little One

Safety has always been the number one thing for me when it comes to working with clients and especially newborns. If you've found yourself on this page its because the current worldwide pandemic has made it possible that I may not be able to accomplish your newborn portraits. I know its disappointing to not be able to get those perfect sleepy photos of your fresh little newborn - I truly feel heartbroken I can't provide those to you at this time. What I can do is show you that other times within baby's first year can be pretty miraculous and wonderful to capture in lieu of newborn photos. I always try to capture a few photos of the full family as well as your little one with any older siblings at every milestone session. I usually even capture a few photos of older siblings alone - I can't help myself.

Newborn Images vs Milestones

I love newborn and baby photography - you probably already know this by the mere fact that I've chosen to specialize in it. Newborns are wonderful and perfect and oh-so-tiny. We photograph them early - generally within 2 weeks of birth - when they are sleepy and easily coaxed into curly womb-like positions. I spend a lot of hands-on time soothing, posing and comforting your newborn during my ~3 hour posed newborn sessions to ensure we achieve those sleepy, curly newborn poses. Though we may miss the window to get those images, milestone sessions only last about an hour, baby can be posed entirely by parents, and the resulting images truly showcase your perfect awake baby, their growing personality and all the things they can do at that stage in their growth. Milestone sessions are also less costly, which is another great reason to defer to a milestone session. Please see info/images below of some of my favorite milestone times to photograph your baby.

4/5 Months

Four months is the first milestone I generally suggest. At this point baby is confident on their tummy and holding their head up with ease. Baby's personality is really coming out and you may know quite a bit about what they like, dislike and how to coax out those little smiles.

6 Months

Six months is a great time to photograph your little one if you're planning for 2 milestone sessions during baby's first year (6 months & 1 year). Baby will be confident on their tummy, rolling and moving and really showing their personality. At this point they are generally still unable to sit up unassisted, but with the help of my fluffy baby chair and other props we are able to get a good variety of images regardless.

7/8 Months

Eight months is my next favorite baby milestone. At this point most babies are able to sit up unassisted and are fully exploring everything around them. Because baby can do so many things we can really get a lot of variety in images with just a few simple setups at home. We can also easily incorporate some of baby's favorite things or items from home you'd love to have them photographed with.

1 Year

One year is by far the most popular milestone. Many parents who haven't worked with me previously find me for their baby's 12 month milestone. At this point your little one can usually stand on their own or with a little help, which is such a beautiful thing to capture. This session as with any other milestone offering can be simple and focused on baby or a little more elaborate and themed depending on what collection you choose. For more elaborate sets its definitely important to book early so I can find everything I need to make this session as special and unique as your baby.

Family Sessions

I appreciate and understand all the different ways families may move forward with COVID-19 in existence. I never want to put stress or pressure on anyone and try to be as flexible as possible. If a baby milestone session doesn't work well for your family and you prefer to move forward with a family photoshoot within baby's first 2 years, I'm happy to do so - just let me know and I will make it happen.
