Hey Connecticut! Is winter over yet??? I’ve really enjoyed this past winter and all the amazing snow we’ve received this year, but I think I’m finally ready for it to be done. Each year I have a handful of clients who specifically want the look of snow for their maternity or family photos and I’m thrilled that this year was no different. Because snow portraits can be a challenge to schedule here in Connecticut I typically only take on 2 or 3 requests a year. Coordinating work schedules, hair & makeup and hoping for decent temperatures for a snow shoot can be a challenge. Thankfully this winter provided abundant snow with plenty of options for when to shoot. In fact, this snowy waterfall maternity photoshoot right here in Connecticut was just a happy accident. We had our shoot date chosen way in advance, a stunning waterfall location chosen for portraits and made a small adjustment to the session date when we noticed rain for our original session. What a magical day it turned out to be.
When I arrived at this Connecticut park I realized the snow was even deeper than I could have expected. Living closer to the shore we had quite a bit less snow on the ground at our house. Being a typically busy park for hiking I imagined the trails would be tamped down from people out experiencing a winter hike. Thankfully I always arrive early so I was able to go out ahead and find the safest way to navigate ourselves down to the epic waterfall, where the best spots along the way for portraits would be and to recognize that aside from one other person I was the only soul at the park in those moments. It was truly breathtaking and I couldn’t be more thankful that this accidental snowy maternity shoot was the one to kick off my snowy season! I hope you enjoy these images as much as I enjoyed creating them.
