Pregnancy is such a fleeting, beautiful season—one that deserves to be captured in a way that feels authentic to you. But when it comes to maternity photography, one of the biggest questions I hear is:
“Should I do a studio session or an outdoor session?”
The answer? It depends on the kind of experience you’re looking for! Both options create stunning, timeless images, but they offer different moods, styles, and benefits. To help you decide, let’s break down what each one offers and how to choose the perfect fit for you.

Studio Maternity Sessions: Elegant, Timeless, and Intimate
Studio maternity sessions are all about effortless beauty in a quiet, private setting. If you love the idea of soft, flattering lighting, classic backdrops, and a more styled, polished look, this might be perfect for you.
Why Choose a Studio Maternity Session?
- Zero weather worries – No need to stress about rain, wind, or humidity.
- Full control over lighting – Soft, flattering studio lighting ensures perfect skin tones.
- Intimate & relaxed – A quiet, comfortable space where you can focus on capturing your pregnancy beautifully.
- Gowns provided – Choose from a curated collection of stunning maternity gowns, elegant draping fabrics, and form-fitting dresses.
- Fine-art options – From classic tones to bold, dramatic lighting styles, the studio allows for a variety of artistic looks.
✨ Best for moms who want: A polished, editorial, or classic feel with complete comfort and privacy.

Outdoor Maternity Sessions: Dreamy, Natural, and Romantic
For those who love wide-open spaces, golden sunsets, and organic, free-flowing images, an outdoor maternity session might be the perfect choice. Nature provides a stunning, ever-changing backdrop that adds depth and emotion to your portraits.
Why Choose an Outdoor Maternity Session?
- Gorgeous natural light – Soft sunset or sunrise lighting gives that golden, dreamy glow.
- Movement & flow – Capture natural moments with wind-blown gowns, walking along the shore, or simply holding your belly as you enjoy the scenery.
- A relaxed feel – If you love candid, effortless portraits, outdoor sessions create an organic, storytelling vibe.
- Gowns provided – Just like in the studio, you’ll have access to my collection of maternity gowns designed to complement natural settings.
- Variety of locations – Whether it’s the beach, a field, or a wooded trail, the backdrop adds to the mood of your session.
✨ Best for moms who want: A natural, glowy, storytelling look with movement and emotion.

Why Not Both? Studio + Beach Sessions
If you’re torn between the two, you don’t have to choose! I offer a Studio + Beach session in Niantic for the same price as an outdoor session, giving you the best of both worlds. We’ll start with timeless, styled portraits in the studio, then head to the beach for those dreamy, windswept maternity images.
For those who prefer a studio + another outdoor location, that’s an option too! An additional fee applies for locations beyond the Niantic beach area.

When Should You Book Your Maternity Session?
To get the most flattering and comfortable experience, maternity sessions are best scheduled between 28–34 weeks. At this stage:
- Your bump is beautifully round and prominent.
- You still feel comfortable moving and posing.
- It’s not too close to your due date in case baby arrives early!
Because maternity sessions fill up quickly, it’s best to book as early as possible—especially if you’re considering a studio + beach session.
Which Maternity Session Style is Right for You?
At the end of the day, this session is about you—your journey, your style, your vision. Whether you dream of a classic, styled studio session, an airy outdoor session, or both, I’m here to make it effortless and stress-free.
No matter which option you choose, my goal is to create stunning, meaningful images that you’ll cherish forever.
